Jeune Morty, Future

Updated: May 23

A bit simple, that one. Sorry about that. In truth, that's what struck me most on first listen. This Thugo-Migossian vision of music videos, this flow that spills over onto the next bar. For the moment, it's trap that I like. All goes well. Just watch.

But on closer inspection, it goes much deeper than that. Witness this pop-rock-influenced liveband, which I tracked down by poking around on his website www.jetsetfarot.com . In the meantime, it has disappeared.

By the way, I love the idea of nurturing an entire universe around one's artistic vision. It's what makes (and continues to make) the message complete and concrete. All the exclusives to which listeners have free access without promoting it anywhere. I think it's cool. Like that Bieber drop on November 4 that nobody picked up on, it's been there all this time and it's powerful once you notice it. There are so many images, sometimes just of his lifestyle, in the studio, at a seminar with his team or at a club. There are even clips and sounds never released. And it all seems to be ephemeral. Anyway, I'll let you have a look.

But I wasn't wrong either when I pointed out his resemblance to Future. Well, with the whole ATL trap scene of the 2010s. From Carti to Thugger to Gucci Mane, Jeune Morty has brought these influences back cleanly without sounding parodic. You quickly notice that the influences have been digested and a unique energy emerges, like a breath of fresh air for the French rap landscape. In my eyes, a good artist is one who manages to blend his or her inspirations while freeing himself or herself from them to make room for his or her own voice. And that's what I feel when I listen to Jeune Morty's music. The inspirations are varied. The desire to put his Ivorian culture at the heart of his lyrics reinforces his authenticity, which he sometimes disguises under the glasses of Thug in 2014. By mentioning Douk Saga, for example, the Ivorian singer and pioneer of coupé décalé, to the point of naming his label JetSet Music, which was the name of the group founded by the latter. Talking about yourself. The most important thing to be an identifiable artist.

So, to get back to the point, in my opinion, he's the artist to watch very closely this year. On the eve of his community's long-awaited project. Eponyme.

Jeune Morty has not disappointed us once this year. En Attendant Eponyme was a slap in the face for many of us, especially the track Dent, which was unanimously acclaimed by all who heard it. Produced by Scolabrique and Ody. The atmosphere created by this track is insane. It takes us far, far away. And to think, it's not even my favorite track on the EP. In truth, they're all equal. And each in its own register. He depicts a few touches of his artistic palette, where each track has its own color, its own grain. My favorites : Bootyfull and Caméra. Probably the most soaring. The most sincere. The ones that made me realize he was different. That he was here to bring something different. And then this idea was confirmed with the release of the latest singles Bieber and First Day Out. Dang. The project I'm most looking forward to this year. By far. I can't wait to see where he takes us. Because with each new track, he still manages to surprise us. To touch an even more sensitive spot in our ears as seasoned listeners. I invite you to discover the artist's discography for yourself, because these lines won't be enough to make you love his music. You have to immerse yourself in it to understand. And I do.

Have a listen to Jeune Morty.
