LOWKEY SOIXANTE QUINZE

I didn't expect to be surprised again by an artist any time soon.

Who's that guy on stage ?

It's quite simple. He came, he took the microphone, he said what he had to say and he left. Wow. I confess it was a half slap in the face I felt at the time. So I asked my man his name. Lowkey Soixante Quinze.

The next day, I went to check if I'd heard correctly. Apparently so. Clip after clip, I find myself immersed in a world of my own. I warn you, Lowkey's music is a little different from what we're used to listening to. Already in its productions. The 808ADAM collective's unique productions are always very rhythmic, blending a number of sounds that you wouldn't necessarily think you'd ever hear together. But the result is so effective. And Lowkey never seems to be overwhelmed by what his producers have to offer. One never encroaches on the other, I think that's why it works. Oh yes, and it works on all types. We go from Crown, an oriental sample turned into a trap egotrip, to New Again, a track with a deeper dynamic that's really been at the heart of Lowkey's work so far. But this contrast doesn't prevent the tracks from coming together perfectly. As do their clips, filmed on Super8 at the foot of the Pyramids. By Emile Arnault. In fact, it's advisable not to dissociate the two. “The clip is the sound”. The charm of the camera's grain takes us on an almost temporal journey. The images seem to have been filmed 40 years ago. From an ancient trip to Egypt. Well, Crown is my favorite clip of 2024.

For every clip I drop a film »

To tell the truth, I couldn't really define it any more. I feel like I'm looking at a work that's complex in its authenticity. An artist who speaks his truth when everyone else is lying. Or at least who really does things his own way. You can hear it. All the ideas mixed into the production, the flows, the melodies, the text and even the visuals. Everything is totally liberated with him. It's a lot to take in at once. So we can always relate to the feelings it gives us. I invite anyone looking for new sensations in this rap game to check out Lowkey's music. A character who bears no resemblance to his contemporaries inevitably attracts my curiosity. Especially in this era when underground rap has taken a trap turn, Lowkey is good for us because he brings something else to the table. Another way of thinking about music. To sing it. And for us to listen to it. Here's hoping he finds the audience he deserves.

Tune in to Lowkey Soixante Quinze!
